Join the Neighborhood Farm Initiative next Thursday, August 11 for a fabulous event of film and food:
Urban Agriculture on the Move: A Film and Food Event

Letelier Theater (3251 Prospect Street, Suite 500, NW, Upper Courtyard) in Georgetown
Tickets: $20 available pre-sale on-line, or at the door pending seat availability.
What do a plot of grass slated to become a parking lot and an old 1986 Dodge pickup have in common?
Think outside the box and they both become creative avenues for growing food in a city!
Please join the Neighborhood Farm Initiative for their 3rd annual film fundraiser, an evening of film, local light fare and wine, and live music! They will present the humorous and whimsical documentary, Truck Farm, about the adventures of a New Yorker who is determined to grow his own food New York City’s concrete jungle, and his creative solution: a mobile farm in the back of his old pickup truck. Following the movie, NFI will be joined by Robert Egger, Joelle Johnson, and Karli Hurlebaus from DC Central Kitchen to discuss different ways urban agriculture brings fresh food to city-dwellers – including a peek at DC’s very own truck farm! Representatives from the Neighborhood Farm Initiative will also be on hand to discuss the ways they’ve reclaimed underutilized green spaces in DC.
Doors open and refreshments served at 6:30 pm. Film screening will start promptly at 7:30 pm, with discussion to follow. The Letelier Theater is located in the Georgetown neighborhood at 3251 Prospect Street, NW, Upper Courtyard. For directions and parking information, please visithttp://leteliertheater.com/directions/.
All proceeds will benefit the Neighborhood Farm Initiative, a DC-based non-profit serving as an educational resource for adults and teenagers, working to engage in small-scale food production in Washington, DC. Visit www.neighborhoodfarminitiative.org for more info.
We would like to offer a special thanks to our sponsors: Silver Spring Farmer’s Market, Mount Pleasant Farmer’s Market, Wegmans, Trader Joe’s, Harris Teeter, GLUT Food Coop, Whole Foods, Barrel Oak Winery, and St. Stephen’s Church and the Incarnation Episcopal Church.

I’ve been volunteering with the Neighborhood Farm Initiative since I moved to DC last summer and it’s been one of the best experiences here in DC. This year, I took on more responsibility with the organization, helping to organize this event. It’s taken a lot of work, but I’m looking forward to it and would love the support of Fashion Fix DC and the readers! Please do come! The event will be a lot of fun and benefits a wonderful organization.
Hope to see you Thursday!
